{"id":74,"date":"2011-01-15T16:20:52","date_gmt":"2011-01-15T22:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/familyfarmers.org\/?p=74"},"modified":"2011-03-19T14:15:21","modified_gmt":"2011-03-19T19:15:21","slug":"just-say-no-to-ge-alfalfa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyfarmers.org\/?p=74","title":{"rendered":"Just Say No to GE Alfalfa"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Tell  Sec. of Agriculture Vilsack to Ban the Planting of GE  Alfalfa.<\/h3>\n<h4>USDA\u2019s Environmental Impact Statement Does Not Justify  Approval<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/secure3.convio.net\/cfs\/images\/content\/pagebuilder\/11473.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"3\" width=\"200\" height=\"135\" align=\"left\" \/>In a precedent-setting final Environmental Impact Statement  (EIS) on the planting of Monsanto\u2019s genetically engineered (GE) alfalfa,  the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) acknowledges for the first time  that GE contamination of organic and conventionally grown crops  presents a huge problem in the U.S.\u00a0 Yet, the document falls woefully  short of proving that GE alfalfa is safe for the environment or that it  will afford <em>all<\/em> farmers their fair share of the US agricultural  economy.\u00a0 In fact, the EIS sorely lacks the type of rigorous scientific  data and analysis that the public expects from the Agency to justify  going forward with any type of deregulation of GE alfalfa.<\/p>\n<p>That is why we are calling on our supporters to urge USDA to  adopt a moratorium on the planting of GE alfalfa.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Center for Food Safety\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/hG7nxg\" target=\"_blank\">Read the whole Action Alert from the Center for Food Safety<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tell Sec. of Agriculture Vilsack to Ban the Planting of GE Alfalfa.
